The Central Board of Secondary Education was set up to achieve the objectives of prescribing conditions of examinations and conducting public examinations at the end of Class X and XII , granting qualifying certificates to successful candidates of the affiliated schools, fulfilling the educational requirements of those students whose parents were employed in transferable jobs, prescribing and updating the course of instructions of examinations, affiliating institutions for the purpose of examination and raising the academic standards of the country. The prime focus of the Board is on Innovations in teaching-learning methodologies by devising student-friendly and student-centered paradigms. The students of Class III have the basic proficiency for reading and writing in at least two languages and for doing the basic mathematical calculations. So, these students can acquire some knowledge even without the direct intervention of the teachers, provided the books are designed for self-tutoring. Up to Class VIII, there should be a planned graduated growth in the knowledge base, both in width and depth.
